About Hoqmail

Hoqmail is a private inbox for your own domain. Every address at the domain is delivered to one mailbox, and Hoqmail shows you what arrived for whichever address you ask about.

How it works

Your domain is configured to accept mail for any address and deliver it to a single mailbox. Hoqmail connects to that mailbox over IMAP, using an encrypted connection, and lists the messages addressed to the address you look up. Nothing is copied into a separate database: what you see is read from the mail server at the moment you ask for it.

That design means you can invent an address whenever you need one. Give a shop shop@yourdomain and a newsletter news@yourdomain, and both simply arrive — no setup, no extra accounts, and you always know who shared your address.

What it does not do

Hoqmail is deliberately a reader. It does not send mail, and it cannot reply or forward. It writes to your mailbox in two ways only, and only when you ask: opening a message marks it as read, and moving a message to Trash puts it in the mailbox's own Trash folder. Nothing is ever deleted outright, so anything you move stays retrievable from any other client on the account.

Attachments can be downloaded. Each one is fetched from the mail server at the moment you ask for it and passed straight to your browser; Hoqmail keeps no copy, and the attachment stays on the server with its message. Keeping the surface small this way keeps it fast and keeps the number of things that can go wrong low.
